TARSHELL, The TAR Shell Program, Version 1.0
This package should contain the following files:
- README.1ST This file.
- TARSHELL.DOC The documentation for TARSHELL.
- TARSHELL.EXE The executable TARSHELL program.
In addition to this package you will need:
- An IBM-compatible PC running OS/2.
- A supported SCSI host adapter and SCSI tape drive.
- GTAK. (At the time that this was written, the latest version of
GTAK was GTAK212.)
To do it right, you will also need:
An OS/2 boot disk. (This can be made with MAKEBOOT. Look for
MAKEBOOT.ZIP on your OS/2 BBS.)

This is the first release of TARSHELL, which I wrote to make it easier to use
GTAK. I confess. I have just been learning how to use GTAK as I wrote the
program. I am sure that I do not fully understand it even now.
I have written TARSHELL and tested it on my machine which has an Adaptec
1542b SCSI host adapter and an Archive Viper 2525S tape drive.
Please Note: One of the methods of taking backups has not yet been
implemented in GTAK, so menu choice 1.6.1.4. does not work, but Andreas
Kaiser has indicated that it is being considered for a future release.
Please note: TARSHELL has little error checking and no pop-up help windows.
It has been written that way to keep it small enough to be run from a floppy
disk. To compensate for that, please read through the documentation. If you
will read it once, you should have no trouble using TARSHELL. If there is
something in the documentation that is incorrect or unclear, please let me
know.
